Watershed
Institute The Watershed Institute is a five-day
program designed to equip local watershed leaders with the skills, tools,
and confidence to assess, design and implement effective restoration programs
in their home watersheds. The Center has partnered with the River Network
to develop an intensive program that will cover 1)technical training,
2) aftercare for Center for Watershed Protection and River Network staff,
3) organizational development, 4) peer-to-peer networking, and 5) local
"watershed team" capacity building. The first Institute took place in
mid September 2003. Read about
it here.

Watershed Workshops The Center is
dedicated to training watershed managers around the country to protect,
manage and restore our streams, lakes and rivers. Our single and multi-day
workshops provide communities with specific guidance on the types and
combinations of watershed protection and restoration tools to apply, leading
to more effective local watershed protection and restoration efforts.
Our workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of a wide range of technical
topics and professional audiences. Click

Stormwater Institute The Center will
be holding a three-day stormwater institute oriented toward private and
public sector engineering professionals that need to learn how to develop
a local stormwater program. In particular, we will target local staff
from more than a thousand communities that must develop municipal stormwater
programs to meet new EPA stormwater permit requirements, a strategy that
will also allow us to seek additional federal grant sources for funding.
The program is divided between lectures, field trips, and hands-on design
exercises, and features outside speakers that can provide different perspectives
on building a stormwater program.

Community
Watersheds Through our Community Watersheds Program, the
Center for Watershed Protection endeavors to empower local watershed organizations
by providing them with professional level training, resources and partnership
opportunities in watershed protection and restoration. In 2003, CWP has
worked with these community watershed groups: Jones Falls Watershed Association,
MD; Gwynns Falls Watershed Association, MD; Friends of Sligo Creek; Herring
Run Watershed Association, MD; and Charles River Watershed Association,
MA. Additionally, the Center is working to create both Adopt-a-Pond and
Adopt-a-Stream programs in Baltimore County.
