Restoration and Watershed Stewardship
As there are many watershed restoration activities and stewardship activities, we've broken them down into the following categories:
Stream Repair
Are your streams having a mid-life crisis? This section provides some theraputic guidance on bank stabilization, grade control, natural channel design, stream cleanups, floodplain reconnection, and other stream restoration techniques. (see Riparian and Upland Pervious Area Restoration for buffer planting techniques)
Riparian and Upland Pervious Area Restoration
Need trees? Remaining natural areas such as riparian buffers, local parks, and greenway corridors are good opportunities to combine habitat, recreation, carbon reduction, and stormwater treatment objectives in your community. This section provides resources detailing restoration techniques for pervious areas from managing invasives, to tree planting, to soil amendments.
Residential Stewardship
Want to start a Stream Watch program or just disconnect your downspout? This section covers many ways individual residents can minimize their impact on local waterways. Check out Watershed 101 as it might also help with making the case for good stewardship.
Municipal Housekeeping
Is your municipal maintenance facility a poster-child for good pollution prevention practices? Probably not, so here are some tips for reducing pollutants generated on public lands through improved spill prevention, outdoor storage practices, and employee training. Many of these practices can be applied in commercial and industrial settings. Provides a program manager everything they need to streamline their programs.
