The Stormwater Institute is an intensive, interactive three-day training program designed to equip staff from local governments, non-profits, and the private sector with the tools and techniques to develop and manage effective local stormwater programs in the Western Lake Erie Basin Project Area.

Developed specifically for Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) community stormwater professional, the program will focus on providing:

training on the technical skills needed to develop and run effective programs for stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, illicit discharge detection and elimination, pollution prevention, and watershed education in the Maumee River Basin and surrounding region;
practical guidance on municipal stormwater program setup, design and administration, including staffing, budgeting, financing and resources;
motivation for area stormwater program managers to “raise the bar” for their local programs through local and national experts offering real-world examples of successful stormwater treatment practices, stormwater program financing, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater education and outreach;
detailed guidance and information on how to more effectively enforce federal and state stormwater regulations at the local level; and
a forum for local stormwater managers, state stormwater permit writers, and federal stormwater permit program managers in the region to enhance communication among these different levels of government after the Institute concludes.

Organized by the Center for Watershed Protection in cooperation with the Western Lake Erie Basin Partnership, the City of Toledo, OH, City of Oregon, OH, and American Rivers.
