Builders
for the Bay (BFB) is a first-of-its-kind program aimed at reducing environmental
impacts from residential and commercial construction within the Chesapeake
Bay watershed. Under the leadership of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay,
the Center for Watershed Protection and the National Association of Home Builders,
Builders for the Bay will encourage the voluntary adoption of
22 better site design principles that reduce the environmental effects
of residential and commercial development.

Helps Get Code Reform in Stafford County, VA
In
a giant stride for fast-growing Stafford County, the County Board of Supervisors
amended the local development codes in June 2003 to incorporate better site
design principles, including changes to waive curb and gutter requirements;
permit the use of rain gardens and permeable pavers; and waive sidewalk requirements
with an on-lot an alternative pedestrian pathway. The Center is proud to have
been a part of yet another example of actual code reform as a result of our
local roundtable process!
