Center Opens New Office in Suburban Philadelphia
While our headquarters in Ellicott City, Maryland will always function as the central “hub” for our work, the Center continues to expand our geographic reach by adding new office locations around the region. In addition to our office in CharlottesvilleVirginia, we have staff located in Leesburg and Richmond, Virginia and in Ithaca, New York. We recently added a new location in suburban Philadelphia, as Julie Schneider made a big move from Maryland to the home of cheesesteaks, hoagies and soft pretzels.
Our Philly location has allowed us to work more closely with area groups such as the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and the Philadelphia Water Department, as well as have a bigger role in local outreach and field-based efforts. Recent Center initiatives in Pennsylvania have included training and support to municipalities in the Wissahickon Watershed on illicit discharge detection and elimination; training for MS4s in Berks County; stormwater retrofit inventory and BMP implementation in Lancaster County; and developing green infrastructure specifications for projects at Philadelphia parks.
As we continue to expand our work in Pennsylvania, Julie and other Center staff are becoming well versed in Pennsylvania’s MS4 permit requirements; the challenges faced by the state’s more than 2,500 small townships, boroughs and other municipalities; and the local lingo. To summarize: Yo! We want to help youse guys protect Philly’s ‘wooder’sheds!
