The Pollution Detectives Toolkit provides resources to local governments who are implementing illicit discharge detection and elimination (IDDE) programs and provides resources to help address the required programmatic elements for IDDE programs. Funding for the toolkit was provided by Altria Group, Inc. and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Get practical, comprehensive information on watershed restoration techniques with the Center’s Urban Subwatershed Restoration Manual series. Together, the USRM manuals introduce an integrated framework for urban watershed restoration, outline effective techniques for assessing urban watersheds, and provide a comprehensive review of watershed restoration techniques.

This 3-part manual series developed with the USDA Forest Service describes the practice of urban watershed forestry, including how and why to manage forests at the watershed scale, incorporating trees into development sites through conservation and planting, and methods to address the challenges of tree planting in urban locations.

This 6-article series, developed by the Center for EPA, provides guidance on how and why to protect wetlands by managing them at the watershed scale.

This final issue of Watershed Protection Techniques includes 10 articles focused on watershed management for urban lakes.

This comprehensive reference contains 150 articles on all aspects of watershed protection and represents a broad interdisciplinary approach to restoring and maintaining watershed health.  Articles were compiled from the Center’s journal Watershed Protection Techniques.

This includes all Center-published materials related to stormwater management, including BMP design guidance, stormwater program assistance, stormwater retrofitting, and research on stormwater quality and BMP effectiveness.

Better Site Design, like Low-Impact Development, Environmentally-Sensitive Development, and Green Infrastructure, seeks to minimize the negative impacts of new development on water resources. Here you will find resources related to BSD techniques, development code recommendations, and local incentives to adopt BSD. Recent materials related to the design of redevelopment and infill sites are also available.

The Center has helped to develop several state and regional stormwater management manuals. While we do not provide these publications for download, we direct you to the appropriate state agency website for the latest version of each manual.

This section includes links to watershed plans developed by the Center for local jurisdictions or watershed organizations.  These plans provide examples of the Center’s watershed planning process and resulting recommendations for various types of communities (e.g., urban, suburban, rural, coastal).

This material can be used for educating local stakeholders on the impacts of watershed-related behaviors and influencing behavior change. Feel free to use or adapt this material for your group's particular needs.

Need to evaluate how well your watershed or stormwater program is working?  We provide several types of audits and checklists so you can score your community and determine where improvements are needed.

This section includes forms you can use to conduct stream and upland assessments, with specific focus areas such as stormwater retrofitting, residential neighborhoods, commercial hotspots, contiguous forests, and stormwater outfalls.  The goal of these assessments is to identify potential pollution problems and propose solutions.
