Feeding the future and preserving earth’s natural resources can be achieved collectively, at least that’s our goal at UNIBEST. In Agriculture, we provide advanced soil testing technologies and services that are simple to use and cost effective for farmers and crop growers. Our soil testing product, Ag ManagerTM, has the ability to act just like a plant root and detect nutrients in the soil that are readily available to a plant or cropping system. This means that Ag ManagerTM can be used as a leading indicator of plant health and nutrition, detecting nutrient imbalances or deficiencies early in a plant’s growth stages. Unlike traditional soil sampling techniques that change the natural chemistry of the soil through drying and grinding, Ag ManagerTM utilizes field moist soil and provides nutrient analysis exactly how the plant sees it. The data generated by the system are used to produce fertilizer prescriptions that are tailored to a specific crop and desired yield. These fertilizer prescriptions allow farmers to save money without over applying organic or synthetic fertilizer nutrients when an excess already exists in the soil profile. With precision fertilizer amendments, there is less of a chance of environmentally sensitive nutrients leaving the farm and disrupting aquatic ecosystems.

The same nutrients that provide plants the nutrition to grow, can also disrupt water ecosystems. Nitrogen and phosphorus in excess cause algal blooms and water quality issues that affect aquatic life and drinking water. EcoTrack Services, our environmental division at UNIBEST, offers an innovative water monitoring tool for measuring cumulative load of compounds and elements in a watershed. Eco-TrackerTM is a simple and effective passive water monitoring tool that can be used in a variety of ways. By placing systems in a stream, outfall, or sewer piping system, nutrient fluxes can be monitored and areas of concern or input can be located. Typically, Eco-Tracker™ systems are replaced weekly. Data are displayed as a cumulative load over a period of time; offsetting data limitations and concerns that result from grab samples taken from a single point in time. The ability to measure cumulative loads offers additional benefits  during storm water events, research and development studies, evaluation of Best Management Practices, Natural Resource Damage Assessments, total maximum daily load, restoration progress analysis, and passive surface and groundwater monitoring.

Our testing systems have the benefit of being easy to use and cost effective. As in agriculture and water quality, our technology can be used similarly in a variety of applications including forestry, golf and turf, lawn and garden, and landscape and ornamental markets. We are currently developing new and innovative solutions for greater sustainable markets and are committed to working diligently with universities and other academic and research institutions to ensure that scientific methods form the cornerstone for commercial acceptance.
