Our Work
The Center fosters responsible land and water management through applied research, direct assistance to communities, award-winning training, and access to a network of experienced professionals.
Research
The Center conducts applied research to better understand the influence of land use activities on the health of our water resources and develop best practices to prevent and mitigate these impacts. This research provides the technical and scientific foundation to support all of our other work. Our strength lies in translating science into practical guidance for policymakers, scientists and other professionals. Much of this guidance is contained in the Center’s manuals, research papers and reports available for free download from the Online Watershed Library. As national experts in stormwater and watersheds, we also identify emerging and under-developed watershed issues, and encourage policymakers, scientists and funders to direct resources and attention to them.
For more information about collaborating with the Center on a research project, contact Karen Cappiella at kc@cwp.org or 410-461-8323.

Training
Watershed and stormwater professionals face ever-increasing regulatory requirements, prompting a need for more staff, more technical expertise, and more resources. The Center is dedicated to providing these practitioners with the skills and the tools they need to do more effective and efficient watershed work. We offer technical training on specific watershed management topics through our annual Watershed and Stormwater Webcast Series and our on-site training. We have also trained our audiences through university courses, videos, webinars, institutes, and conferences. Our goal is to understand the training needs of the client and to tailor our training materials to suit unique training objectives and budgets.
Center for Watershed Protection Association (CWPA)
The Center launched the CWPA to build a national network of professionals dedicated to advancing the state-of-the-art in watershed and stormwater management and provide a forum for sharing ideas, resources, expertise, and information. Membership provides the opportunity for training, education and professional development and fosters collaboration among its members.
