On Site Training

The Center is dedicated to training watershed managers around the country to protect, manage and restore our streams, lakes and rivers. Presentations at conferences or our customized workshops provide communities with specific guidance on the types and combinations of watershed protection and restoration tools to apply, leading to more effective local watershed protection and restoration efforts.

Our workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences, including watershed groups, engineers, government personnel, stormwater managers, developers, watershed planners, public officials, environmental organizations and others interested in watershed protection.

Training workshops generally run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and range from 1-3 days. Half-day training sessions are also available. A typical workshop day includes some combination of the following:

  • A field trip (such as stream assessment training)
  • A panel discussion
  • Local guest speakers

You can select from this wide range of topics, or Center staff may develop new sessions designed to address your unique training needs. Each training module description includes a list of available support material for that module.

Workshop costs vary widely depending upon the length of the workshop, the degree of customization required, and the course materials provided. Cost includes preparing materials and providing two to three technical speakers per day. Additional fees include reproduction of support materials and travel expenses. A detailed scope of work and budget is prepared on a case-by-case basis for every workshop. The Center reserves the right to assign the most appropriate technical staff to the workshop.

For more information on training contact Laurel Woodworth at (434) 293-5793 or lw @ cwp.org.

Please contact the Center PRIOR to pursuing funding for a workshop to confirm our availability. The Center typically requires a six-month lead time when planning a workshop.
